Dance Class Descriptions
Rising Star Academy of Arts offers students of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to learn dance in different genres in a fun atmosphere. All students receive high quality instruction in a professional studio environment and (with the exception of Dance for Two) perform at our year end dance recital held at the Pantages Playhouse Theatre in June.
Dance for 2
A class for 2-year-olds and parent to explore creative expression in an imaginative & fun dance atmosphere; includes games, songs & music.
What to wear: parent and child should both dress to be active. No outdoor shoes please!
Creative Movement (3 yr-olds)
Students improve their basic motor skills, body awareness, listening skills and explore creative expression in an imaginative & fun dance atmosphere that includes music, movement, games and songs while learning discipline, social skills and having fun.
Girls: any coloured bodysuit and tights with pink gymnastics/ballet slippers. Hair must be worn in a ponytail.
Boys: black t-shirt with black shorts/sweats with black gymnastics/ballet slippers.
Beginner Ballet (4 – 6 year olds)
The curriculum is designed by internationally renowned master teachers and child development experts.
Girls: Uniform available for sale at the front desk. Hair must be worn in a classical ballet bun, for instructions click here.
Boys: black t-shirt with black shorts/sweats with black canvas ballet slipper.
Pre-dance (5 – 6 year olds)
An introduction to Tap and Jazz technical skills with a progression from creative movement to promote the development of motor skills, creative expression, self-motivation and discipline. This class is an excellent foundation for any type of dance form.
Girls: any coloured bodysuit and tights with pink gymnastics/ballet slippers and black tap shoes. Hair must be worn in a ponytail.
Boys: black t-shirt with black shorts/sweats with black gymnastics/ballet slippers and black tap shoes.
Rising Star Academy of Arts also offers the following technique classes (non recital)
Emphasis is placed on incorporating jazz stretches and warm up exercises, building upon progression combinations across the floor, executing alignment and placement in jumps, turns and leap tricks and creative expression through stylized combinations. An excellent addition to weekly classes for those wishing to improve their dance technique, this class is mandatory for students on performance teams at an intermediate or senior level.
Ballet technique class is designed to be more challenging than graded work. It focuses on placement, strength, and flexibility, as well as enhancing the quality of performance. This class is required for all students on performance teams and for those wishing to advance their ballet training en pointe.
Stretch & Strength
These classes prove beneficial in reducing stress, improving posture and strengthening muscles. They help in improving the flexibility of the body thus enhancing the range of motion of all body parts while increasing the core strength of the body. You do not need dance experience to attend this class.
